FCC Medio Ambiente obtains the first Zero Waste certification of a Municipal Service for its management of the Barcelona Sewerage Maintenance contract

FCC Medio Ambiente, in compliance with its commitments in the environmental and excellence axes of its 2050 Sustainability Strategy (2050SS), has obtained the Zero Waste Certificate awarded by AENOR, as recognition and evidence of the conformance of our management system with the ZERO WASTE standard. FCC Medio Ambiente has thus become the first company to obtain this certification in the field of municipal services, specifically in the Barcelona sewerage maintenance service.

It should be noted that the verification process has shown that 92.43% of the waste generated in the provision of services has been recovered.

Over the last few years, FCC Medio Ambiente has been working on the definition and validation of tools for the efficient management of the use of resources, as well as calculation methodologies, such as the environmental footprint, carbon footprint and intensity indicators. The quantification of waste recovery is carried out using our own IT platform, the VISION Platform, which allows us to identify and manage all the environmental impacts generated by our services.

This action is part of the 2050 Sustainability Strategy, a roadmap for business growth that the company launched in 2021 and which is developed in four main areas: environmental, social, excellence and governance. Among other things, it sets ambitious targets for the management of waste generated in its contracts, aligned with the Spanish Circular Economy Strategy, Circular Spain 2030 (in Spanish: Estrategia Española de Economía Circular, España Circular 2030, EEEC2030), approved by the Spanish Government and which sets the path to minimise waste generation and make the most of that which cannot be avoided.
