Active participation of FCC Environment within the framework of the UN Climate Change Conference COP25 Madrid
Aligned with its commitment to action against climate change, FCC Environment has actively participated in several events organised within the framework of the COP25 Madrid Climate Change Summit.
Antonio Bravo, director of the Machinery Department, and Gabriel Gómez-Carvajal, head of Innovation and Circular Economy in the Waste Treatment Department, both of FCC Environment, have participated in the Conference on Circular Economy and Sustainable Mobility organised by the Madrid City Council in collaboration with Executive Forum, where they respectively presented the achievements and policies of the company related to new forms of energy and clean mobility, on one side, and the different aspects of the recycling policy and projects registered in the ISO 166002 certified system of R + D + i of FCC Environment , as a means to boost circular energy.
In the green zone of COP25, through the Spanish Confederation of Business Organizations (CEOE), FCC Environment stated in an interview made to Jesús Pajares, head of the Machinery Department, the company's initiatives on climate change. Pajares stressed that the company has been fully committed to the fight against climate change for more than 100 years and that it is developing a strategic plan with horizons 2030 and 2050 in order to reduce emissions as much as possible.
Also, the company was part of the round table on green financing “Mobilizing private capital towards Sustainable Development”, organised by Santander Asset Management. Francisco Huete Arroyo, Management Systems and Sustainability director at FCC Environment, highlighted how the company, as a leader in the environmental services sector, has the purpose and commitment to carry out its activity in a sustainable manner. Huete also spoke about the recent experience of FCC Environment as an issuer of 'Green Bonds', launched with great success, and stressed that the degree of sustainability requests of investors in these financial products is very high and they demand a very clear and well explained sustainability strategy from the issuing entity.
As a company that has joined the #PorElClima Community since 2017, FCC Environment has published its new climate commitments by 2030 on the website of this multi-actor platform, created to implement the Paris Climate Agreement in our country. This year, new short-term and long-term emission reduction objectives have been restated, which have been embodied in a new FCC Environment Climate Change Strategy for horizons 2030 and 2050, in line with the objectives of the 2050 Roadmap of the EU.
As a reflection of the interest and climate effort of the organization, the Community has selected the new cleaning equipment model 'FCC PELUSA 1', auxiliary equipment for diverse services, with high manageability and an assisted pedalling cycle with electric motor, within the 101 Business Examples of Actions #PorElClima that have been presented at COP25. Also to be highlighted that, for the seventh consecutive year, FCC Environment has registered the Carbon Footprint at the Spanish MITECO Office of Climate Change. Globally, the emission of 2,965,700 tCO2e has been avoided and the Carbon Footprint under operational control compared to 2016 has been reduced by 5%.
