FCC Environment secures once again Herefordshire Council’s Recyclables and Waste Collection contract

Following a robust procurement process, Herefordshire Council has once again awarded FCC Environment UK, subsidiary of FCC Servicios Medio Ambiente and leader in recycling and waste management in the United Kingdom, the contract for the collection of recyclables and waste in the county. FCC Environment has been providing this service uninterruptedly since July 2000 and with this contract, which will commence on 1st September 2024, extends the services for an initial period of eight years, and can be extended by up to a further twelve years.

This new contract not only represents continuity of service for residents, but also includes a number of innovations, enhancements and inherent flexibility to respond to anticipated changes over the term of the contract. Key to this will be the addition of two fully electric collection vehicles primarily to serve Hereford City Centre, the county's capital city, a major step towards the Council's and the company's Net Zero goals.

Steve Longdon, FCC Environment’s Chief Executive Officer stated “We are delighted to have the opportunity to continue working in partnership with Herefordshire Council, delivering this key service to residents whilst innovating to assist them on their path to Net Zero by 2030, and having the opportunity to give back to the local communities that we serve.”

Ben Boswell, Hereforshire Council's Head of Environment, Climate Emergency and Waste, claimed “The new Recyclables and Waste collection service will be key to helping us to minimise waste and increase reuse, repair and recycling. It will also provide a significant contribution to our investment in low carbon projects and strengthen our stewardship of Herefordshire’s natural resources.”

“FCC is our current collection provider and bring with them a wealth of experience and knowledge of completing household and business waste collections across Herefordshire. We are pleased to continue working with them, and we are confident that our partnership will deliver the stated environmental benefits while continuing to provide an excellent service for county residents.

FCC Environment UK is present in the United Kingdom since 1989 where it serves nearly 19 million people and carries out activities such waste collection, recycling, treatment and energy recovery, street cleansing, ground maintenance and facility management, among others.
