FCC Medio Ambiente and FCC Equal CEE celebrate the International Day of People with Disabilities

The International Day of People with Disabilities is celebrated on 3rd December with the aim of promoting the rights, welfare and development of peoplewith disabilities in all spheres of society, as well as raising awareness of their situation in all aspects of political, social, economic and cultural life.

The preliminary conclusions of the 2023 United Nations' Report on Disability and Development highlight that many of the targets of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set out in the 2030 Agenda are not on track to be achieved and, if we look specifically at those related to people with disabilities, these goals are even further away.

For this reason, FCC Medio Ambiente and its special employment centre FCC Equal have joined in the commemoration of this day, as they do every year, reaffirming their commitment to the defence of the social and occupational integration of people with disabilities.

On Friday 1st December last, an on-site event was held at FCC's corporate headquarters in Las Tablas (Madrid), promoted by the three branches of FCC Equal (Valencia, Andalusia and Castilla y Leon) and which could be followed live online. The event was attended by representatives and workers from both companies, members of trade union organisations, collaborators and customers, who shared their experiences in the company in different formats: a presentation, a round table discussion and even a psychoballet performance.

In this edition, in addition to sending a message of thanks and support to all the people whose work and dedication contribute to the creation of a more inclusive and tolerant society, the work of the members of the Support Units in the personal and professional development of this group has been highlighted. A truly sustainable development of people with disabilities requires a very specific focus on their needs and rights, not only as beneficiaries, but also as active contributors to social, economic and political life. The company also recognised the efforts and work of three employees with the presentation of the FCC Equal Awards by Raquel Losada, the company's head of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.

All these actions are part of the Social axis of FCC Medio Ambiente's 2050 Sustainability Strategy (SS2050) which, among other things, seeks to increase the volume and activity of insertion employment. SS2050 is a roadmap for business development with a 30-year horizon with very demanding objectives and commitments of high added value for the company and society as a whole, integrated into four lines of action: social, environmental, excellence and governance.
