FCC Medio Ambiente takes part in the 2021 European Mobility Week in Madrid with its ephemeral garden
Last Sunday FCC Medio Ambiente participated in the creation of an ephemeral garden in the activities held on Paseo del Prado for European Mobility Week, a European Commission initiative that aims to promote sustainable, safe and healthy mobility.
The design by FCC Medio Ambiente together with Alfonso Benítez S.A. features two groves of amazing species of Liriodendron tupilifera and Magnolia grandiflora, the former deciduous and the latter evergreen. At their feet, flower beds made from a variety of flowers adapted to Madrid's climate were created to give colour to the garden. The rest of the flowerbeds were covered with different varieties of Sedum spp, a creeping species with a low water requirement, due to the water retention capacity of its leaves, which means that water consumption is considerably reduced.
FCC Medio Ambiente’s garden has awaken great interest among the citizens of Madrid and has been visited by several authorities from the Madrid City Council, including Borja Carabante, Councillor for Environment and Mobility; Inmaculada Sanz, Councillor in charge of Security and Emergencies and Municipal Spokesperson; and Antonio Morcillo, Deputy Director General for Ground Maintenance and Urban Trees. Representing the Madrid branch of FCC Medio Ambiente were Raúl Pérez, Chief Executive Officer; Enrique Cuesta, Chief Operations Officer of street cleansing and Ground Maintenance; and Juan Manuel Yagüe, Head of Ground Maintenance service.
This activity, organized by the Madrid City Council, aims to raise public awareness of the importance of parks and green areas, as well as to involve those attending these activities to promote sustainability and road safety among the population.
By participating in this initiative FCC Medio Ambiente seeks to make citizens appreciate the great green infrastructure that the city of Madrid possesses, while highlighting the positive impact of urban green spaces in mitigating the effects of global warming, generating oxygen, regulating temperature and humidity, dampening noise and absorbing pollution.
