Tribute to FCC Medio Ambiente’s working people at the Madrid branch

The Madrid branch of FCC Medio Ambiente held a ceremony to thank all its working people for their commitment, dedication, understanding and initiatives during the pandemic. The company's Medical Service, Madrid City Council and the trade union committees that collaborated with the company during the COVID-19 pandemic were also recognised.

During the ceremony, a tribute was also paid in memory of all the workers who suffered from the disease, their families and loved ones who passed away, and especially in memory of Francisco Urrutia Martínez, driver of the public street cleansing service in Puente de Vallecas (section 5), who passed away on 21st March.

The event was presided over by Jordi Payet, the company's Chief Executive, and Raúl Pérez, head of the Madrid office, acted as master of ceremonies and said: "At FCC Medio Ambiente we are people who work for other people: the Citizens. For us, the health and safety of our personnel comes first, and we are tremendously proud of that, which is why this event was necessary". After Raúl's words, Juan Carlos de Río, representative of Unión General de Trabajadores (UGT) spoke, followed by Javier Gómez Ochoa, on behalf of Comisiones Obreras (CCOO).

The Madrid City Council, which received two plaques in recognition of its commitment to preserving the health of workers and all Madrid residents during the pandemic, was represented by the Councillor for the Environment and Mobility, Borja Carabante, and the Director General of the Cleansing and Waste Service, Victor Sarabia. The Councillor was very grateful for the willingness of all the FCC Medio Ambiente staff to work in these difficult circumstances, always with the best attitude and making Madrid a safer place.

Jordi Payet in his words of acknowledgement to all the people of the company highlighted: "We are proud that you are part of FCC Medio Ambiente and together we will once again demonstrate our value to the community", and made a very special mention to the family of Francisco Urrutia, a deceased colleague, who was given a bouquet of flowers and a commemorative plaque for a lifetime of work and dedication.

As a symbol of recognition, plaques were presented to the different branches of the services of street cleansing, ground maintenance, municipal solid waste collection and cleansing of buildings. A plaque of recognition was also presented to the company's Medical Services, represented by its director Dr. Rafael Echevarría, for their management and commitment to preserving the health of workers during the pandemic.

During the event, Pablo Gómez Prieto, worker at the waste collection service of Section 1, West Side, from Resina Depot, performed the song "Los Basurillas", a song composed by himself, and was also awarded a plaque for his work, initiative and the joy in his music.

The Madrid branch of FCC Medio Ambiente wanted to use this event to show its gratitude to all its working people and the effort they have made in their daily work, which is fundamental to continue providing essential services to citizens in the difficult circumstances in which we find ourselves due to the pandemic.
