A Joint Venture comprising FCC Medio Ambiente and Acciona will take over the solid urban waste collection and street cleansing service for the municipality of Colmenar Viejo during the next 5 years starting on November 1st, for a total of €25 million.

The consortium will develop an innovative project in one of the most important towns in the northern area of Madrid, based on an environmentally friendly machinery fleet, a more frequent service delivery and greater human and material resources in the street, while promoting public awareness and information campaigns.

The contract will be supported by an innovative technological platform that will allow the control, management, monitoring and optimisation of the services, and real-time interaction with the requests of the inhabitants of the municipality, guaranteeing the service as soon as possible.

The use of electric sweeping trolleys, the increase of the number of cleaning brigades around the containers and extending the graffiti cleansing and excrement collection services have been planned. There will be also provision for additional staff for the leaf and fruit fall season, and an organisation of the cleaning services to ensure greater coverage in the afternoon shift and on Sunday and public holidays.

This Joint Venture plans to progressively introduce the 5th container (brown) and a container model that improves accessibility for staff with reduced mobility and visibility of pedestrians and vehicles. There will also be an increase in the waste collection services for shops and industrial parks, and a reinforcement on the bulky items and pruning collection services.

Mobile Recycling Centres will be incorporated as well, which will cover the entire municipality, moving daily through the main squares, shopping areas, and zones of high traffic, making it easier for citizens to deliver other household waste, with the consequent increase of recycling rates in Colmenar Viejo.
