FCC Medio Ambiente will continue to provide urban services in Parla

The Parla City Council has once again awarded the contracts for solid urban waste collection, street cleaning and recycling centre management to FCC Medio Ambiente in a joint venture with Urbaser, services that have been provided since 2018. The contract represents a portfolio of €151 million over the next 11 years and includes an investment of €10 million and a workforce equivalent to 266 people, ensuring a stable and fully scaled service.

The contract will serve more than 135,000 inhabitants and provides for the complete renewal of the vehicle fleet, 85% of which will be powered by CNG and zero-emission electric systems, reducing environmental impact and moving towards a more sustainable operating model. Similarly, the flushing equipment will have its own meters to optimise water consumption, and the service facilities will incorporate specific energy efficiency and environmental impact reduction measures.

The new collection service introduces improvements aimed at enhancing the quality and efficiency of the service. During the first year, organic waste collection will begin and the frequency of collection from side-loading containers for packaging and paper/cardboard waste will increase. In addition, the municipality will move forward with replacing rear-loading containers with side-loading models, which offer greater capacity, increased safety and more efficient operation. The service will steadily increase and reinforce the location review teams, which operate in three daily shifts, 365 days a year.

The street cleaning service will be reinforced with additional washing, scrubbing and cleaning in squares and between blocks, together with an additional night-time sweeping, washing and hydro-cleaning service. The municipality will also have specific teams for graffiti removal, intensive cleaning and reinforcement at events and street markets. The service will be carried out using 5 m3 road sweepers, road and pavement washers, scrubbers, hydro-cleaning vans and Porter-type electric auxiliary vehicles. Sweeping operators will have electric tricycles to make their journeys more comfortable and increase the efficiency of the service.

In terms of technological innovations in the contract, the entire operation will be managed comprehensively through a digital platform, which will enable real-time monitoring of routes, fleets and containers via GPS/GPRS, CANBUS sensors and RFID tags installed in all containers. Middle managers will have mobile terminals connected to this platform, and residents will be able to report notices and incidents using an application that facilitates a more direct relationship between the service and residents. A total of 455 fill sensors will be installed in the containers.
The recycling centre service will have two permanent facilities located on Calle Bruselas and Avenida de Ronda, along with a mobile recycling centre with daily routes.

Each year, a communication plan will be designed that will focus, among other things, on the new organic waste fraction, recycling by fraction, the treatment of dog excrement, and citizen participation actions. ‘Basuraleza’ days will be held, dedicated to the conservation of the municipality's green areas by involving residents in cleaning tasks.

Social sustainability is particularly important in the new contract, which includes social criteria that prioritise the hiring of people with disabilities or at risk of exclusion, together with support measures for women who are victims of gender-based violence.

FCC increases its turnover by 6.9% in 2025 business year, reaching €9.7 billion

FCC increases its turnover by 6.9% in 2025 business year, reaching €9.7 billion

FCC Group's turnover stood at €9,700.1 million at the end of 2025, up by 6.9% YoY. This growth is due to the balanced contribution of acquisitions in the UK, USA and France in the Environment Area, as well as organic growth in all the Group's business areas, namely Concessions – which grew by 45.5%, driven by the initial operation of new contracts and the increase in traffic – followed by the Water business, with progress in its lines of activity.

EBITDA was €1,419.1 million in the year, which represents a slight decrease of 1.1% compared to the previous year. This change is primarily explained by the adjustment made in the Construction Area during the last quarter, resulting from the development of international projects, their revenue performance depending on their progress and the revised estimated costs to complete them.

The profit attributable to the parent company has decreased by 62%, to €164.4 million in the business year, compared to €432.1 million in the previous year. This was the result of some extraordinary factors, such as the financial spin-off of the Cement and Real Estate areas in November 2024; exchange rate differences; the allocation of provisions in certain activities; and investment adjustments in waste treatment assets in the Environment Area, in the United Kingdom.

As for its balance sheet, FCC Group closed 2025 with a significant reduction in net financial debt. Compared to December 2024, it shrunk by 23%, to €2,301.8 million. This result was achieved despite net investments of €1.2 billion, including renewals, the development of new contracts in different business areas and acquisitions in the Environmental Services Area. The main mitigating factor is explained primarily by the sale of a 25% stake of the Environmental Services holding company for €1 billion.

Equity recorded a notable increase of 26.9%, reaching €4,743.2 million, driven by the adjustment to the valuation arising from the sale price of the non-controlling stake in the Environmental Services holding company.

At year-end, FCC Group’s income portfolio grew by 11.4% YoY, to €51,606.8 million. A significant contributor to this growth was the Construction Area, supported in large part by the increase in international large infrastructure contracts.

Key milestones in 2025

New brand for the Environmental Services Area of the FCC Group

In 2025, and in response to its broader footprint, the environmental services subsidiary adopted the name FCC Enviro, which is easily recognisable on a global scale. It is closely aligned with environmental activities, while also establishing a link with the various brands across the area’s four geographic platforms, which remain unchanged (FCC Medio Ambiente, FCC Environment, FCC Environmental Services, FCC Environnement, …).

FCC Enviro expands its backlog and footprint, particularly at Atlantic, in the United States and the United Kingdom

Below are the main contracts and renewals secured, notably including those in Spain on the Atlantic platform:

On 30 September, the municipality of Granada signed a new street cleaning and waste collection contract, which will be managed by FCC Medio Ambiente for the first time. It has a value of €740 million and will run for 15 years.

Rollover of the contract for the city of L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, which includes the management of clean points and sewerage maintenance, with a backlog worth close to €400 million over the next 10 years.

Oviedo City Council awarded the new waste collection and street cleaning contract to FCC Medio Ambiente, which has been providing these services without interruption since 1967. The backlog amounts to €246.2 million over the next nine years, with a possible one-year extension.

Contract for street cleaning, MSW collection and transport and the management of clean points in El Puerto de Santa María, worth €169 million.

Contract for MSW collection, and street and beach cleaning for the Motril ecopark, running for 12 years and worth €123 million.

Street cleaning contract for the city of Pamplona, running for eight years and with a backlog of €100 million.

And a cleaning contract running the next eight years for the 27 municipalities of the Mancomunitat Penedès-Garraf, with a backlog worth €90 million.

In the treatment segment, highlights in the period included the renewal of the contract for the management and operation of the Waste Treatment Centre and landfill serving the Mancomunidad de la Ribera (Navarre), with a backlog of €71.3 million over a 10-year term, covering a total of 19 municipalities.

Highlights in the United States:

In July, the United States platform expanded its footprint by acquiring Wheelabrator South Broward Inc., which owns the South Broward waste energy recovery plant (Fort Lauderdale, Florida). The acquisition value was $285 million. This addition will act as a platform to consolidate the company's entry into the Treatment business in Florida, as well as to develop synergies with the waste collection operations already underway in its extensive area of influence.

Last October, the contract for the operation and maintenance of the energy recovery plant in Pinellas County (Florida) was signed for the next 10 years, with a backlog of close to €610 million.

Two of the earliest contracts secured in this market over the past decade were renewed. Firstly, the Company successfully renewed the contract for Houston, for the management of biowaste from the city's wastewater treatment system; the contract has a five-year term and a backlog worth $50 million. Meanwhile, Orange County (Florida) extended its MSW contract covering Zones 4 and 5, securing a seven-year agreement with a backlog worth $170 million.

In the treatment segment, the company was awarded the contract to operate the municipal solid waste transfer station in south Minneapolis, its second contract in the state of Minnesota.

Highlights in the United Kingdom:

Last October, Cumbria Waste Group was acquired in the Cumbria region for £76 million. Its activities include waste collection and recycling operations for municipal and commercial clients. Its location will make it possible to leverage synergies both with the activities currently carried out in the region and with those under development in waste treatment and energy recovery.

Progress has been made in the development of a renewable energy project in partnership with Downing Renewable Developments, aimed at rolling out a significant portfolio of facilities to give closed landfills a second life and an environmentally beneficial use. This project includes the energy park near Rowley Regis (West Midlands), featuring a battery energy storage facility with a capacity of up to 100 MW, capable of storing energy to supply, at certain times, up to 300,000 homes.

Sale by FCC Enviro of its paper, cardboard and other non-hazardous waste business for €40.9 million

FCC Ámbito, FCC Enviro’s subsidiary specialising in industrial waste treatment, completed in December the sale of its paper and cardboard recovery business, as well as other non-hazardous waste from industrial and commercial sources, for €40.9 million. The business generated revenue of over €30 million in 2024.

FCC completed the sale of a 25% stake in FCC Enviro to CPP Investments for €1,000 million

Last October, FCC entered into an agreement with CPP Investments for the sale of an additional 25% stake in the share capital of its subsidiary FCC Servicios Medio Ambiente Holding, S.A. (FCC Enviro), in exchange for €1,000 million. The transaction was completed on 19 December. FCC retains a majority stake and control of FCC Enviro with 50.01%, while CPP Investments increases its holding to 49.99%.

Aqualia expands its international activity, which accounts for 71.8% of its revenue backlog

At the start of the year, the extension of the contract for the comprehensive water supply management of Vigo (Pontevedra), provided by the FCC Aqualia joint venture, came into force. The associated backlog amounts to €272.7 million over a five-year period.

In December 2025, it was awarded the concession for public drinking water supply and sanitation services by the SIAEP (municipal association) of Questembert, in Brittany (France). The contract, valued at €47.8 million and running for a 12-year term, covers 15 municipalities and includes the establishment of an agency in Questembert, along with upgrades to wastewater treatment plants.

In Colombia, the contract managed by Aguas de Aracataca was extended for a further 15 years, covering the concession for the water supply, household services and sewerage of the municipality of Aracataca. The backlog is worth €42.6 million. Likewise, last August the assets related to the provision of water supply, sewerage and waste collection services in Villa Olímpica (north of the municipality of Galapa) were acquired for a 50-year term, with a revenue backlog of €91.4 million.

In the Americas market, the first contract was secured in Peru, under a design, financing, construction, operation and maintenance (DFCOM) model, for a wastewater treatment system in Chincha. The project will directly benefit 345,000 people and involves an investment of €78 million, with an associated backlog of €356.7 million and a 24-year term.

In Spain, characterised by a very high degree of granularity and recurring contract renewals, a notable award during the period was the 25-year contract granted by the town council of La Llagosta for the municipal drinking water supply service, representing a revenue backlog of €39 million.
Further highlights in relation to renewals and extensions include the contract for the management of the water supply and sanitation service in Candelaria, on the island of Tenerife. The extended backlog amounts to €48.6 million.

FCC Construcción reported a notable 50.5% increase in its project backlog

In a year marked by strong backlog growth, with an increase of €3,213 million, the following contracts stand out:

• In Canada, the consortium led 50% by FCC Construcción began the development phase (following completion of the definition phase) of the Scarborough Transit Connect project in Toronto, the country’s largest city. This contract, awarded in 2022, involves extending the existing Line 2 subway network (Bloor–Danforth section) by nearly 8 kilometres and represents attributable backlog of €1,705.8 million as at year-end.
• Also in Canada, and in the final quarter of the year, the North End Connectors consortium, in which FCC Construcción holds a 33.3% stake, secured financing for the Yonge North Subway Extension Advance Tunnel in Ontario. The design, construction and financing contract is valued at $1.4 billion, of which €285 million corresponds to FCC Construcción in the current phase. It includes the design and construction of a 6.3-kilometre tunnel, as well as a section of the existing rail corridor. The scope of works also includes the supply of tunnel boring machines, the installation of tunnel linings and ancillary activities.

In the United States, last August the Connect Plus Partners consortium (formed by FCC Construcción and Halmar International) won the contract for the design and construction of Phase 2 of the Second Avenue Subway in New York City, valued at €1,686 million (€859.4 million attributable to FCC). The contract was signed in September.

In Mexico, the consortium formed by FCC Construcción and CICSA (50%/50%) was awarded the design and construction of 111 kilometres of the Tren del Norte, on the section between Saltillo and Santa Catarina. The project is worth €630 million, with an execution period of 31 months.

In Saudi Arabia (August), the contract for the first construction phase of the Qiddiya Stadium was awarded, with a 55% stake held by FCC Construcción and 45% by Nesma Holding Co. This phase follows the early phase, under a design and build contract valued at €366.4 million.

Highlights in Spain: the award to the consortium led by FCC Construcción of the extension of Line 5 of the Madrid Metro to its international airport, with an attributable value of €62.8 million and an expected execution timeline of 36 months. Similarly, in May a consortium featuring several companies from the industry secured one of the year’s most significant rail infrastructure contracts, involving the initial segment of the high-speed rail link between Castile and León and the Basque Country. The project spans 8.4 kilometres and the value attributable to the Group is worth €121.1 million. The award of the contract to complete the Nou Mestalla (Valencia), one of the country’s major sports infrastructures. Meanwhile, the area’s industrial division, heading up a consortium, has been tasked with building the infrastructure for the Volkswagen Group’s electric vehicle battery plant in Sagunto. The contract includes medium- and low-voltage lines for battery production, as well as other electromechanical installations, for an amount in excess of €90 million.

FCC Concesiones brings its first road concession in the United Kingdom fully into service

In the second quarter of the year, the final two sections of the A465 dual carriageway between Hirwaun and Dowlais came into operation in Wales (co-managed by FCC Concesiones, with a 42.5% stake), adding to the other sections that had already entered into operation at the start of the year. This milestone marks the completion of the contract's construction phase, which began in October 2020.

Over the year as a whole, user numbers across the tramway concessions managed by the area increased by an average of 2.2% compared with the previous year. Meanwhile, traffic levels (AADT) across the road concessions as a whole recorded an average increase of 2.9% (Auconsa, Ibisan and Cotuco).

FCC Medio Ambiente obtains the triple ‘Calculate-Reduce-Offset’ seal awarded by the OECC for the fifth consecutive year

FCC Medio Ambiente has renewed its “Calculate-Reduce-Offset” seal for 2024, the latest verified period, the highest level awarded by the Spanish Office for Climate Change (OECC in Spanish) in the carbon footprint registry, and has presented its 2024-2030 Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions Reduction Plan.

The triple seal certifies the calculation, reduction and offsetting of emissions from activities such as electricity and fuel consumption, landfill operation, composting, biomethanisation, waste-to-energy conversion and hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) leaks. In this edition, FCC Medio Ambiente has reduced the average emission intensity for the period 2022-2024 by 4.21% compared to the previous three-year period.

Obtaining the ‘Compenso’ seal has been possible thanks to participation in the ‘VIVEROS YANGUAS III – RÁBANO’ project, located in Valladolid, aimed at forest restoration and CO₂ absorption, developed in collaboration with RETREE & SPACE SOLUTIONS S.L.

The ‘Calculate, Reduce, Offset’ seal recognises organisations that measure and record their carbon footprint, implement effective plans to reduce their emissions and participate in certified absorption projects. With this renewal, FCC Medio Ambiente reinforces the environmental focus of its 2050 Sustainability Strategy, a long-term roadmap that sets demanding and high-value goals for the company and for society, articulated in four priority areas: environmental, social, excellence and governance.

The company's commitment to sustainability goes even further, as evidenced by the launch of its 2024-2030 Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions Reduction Plan, which sets out the company's strategy to substantially reduce its climate impact, in line with the Paris Agreement, SDG 13, the Climate Change Act and the 2030 Integrated National Energy and Climate Plan. The document sets out the roadmap to climate neutrality by 2050 and incorporates a comprehensive set of technical, operational and organisational measures, including the progressive decarbonisation of the vehicle fleet, the improvement of waste treatment facilities and the promotion of renewable energy generation.

FCC Medio Ambiente approves its Second Equality Plan, reinforcing more than a decade of genuine commitment to gender equality

FCC Medio Ambiente has signed its Second Equality Plan, which covers the company itself and its subsidiaries and joint ventures in Spain. This plan, which will remain in force until 2030, consolidates a firm commitment to effective equality between women and men and continues more than ten years of work in this area, which began when there was still no legal obligation to do so.

The company has implemented measures and developed policies that promote safe, inclusive and discrimination-free working environments, expressly integrating this commitment into its mission, vision and values.

The Second Equality Plan is based on a detailed assessment analysing more than twenty companies within the scope of the plan and a workforce of more than 32,000 people. The analysis confirms the progress made with the previous plan and, at the same time, identifies the challenges and priority objectives for the next four years.

The Plan incorporates more than a hundred measures structured into twelve strategic blocks, including:

Positive action measures to promote the incorporation of women in positions where they are underrepresented.

Equality training programmes aimed at the entire workforce, with specific actions targeting women.

Identification of internal female talent to promote professional advancement.

Progressive reduction of partiality and temporary employment.

Annual monitoring of working conditions broken down by gender.

Differentiated risk assessments.

Enhanced protection in situations of pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Measures to prevent and eradicate any behaviour that could constitute sexual or gender-based harassment, including the dissemination of internal reporting channels.

Specific protection measures for women who are victims of gender-based violence.

New voluntary improvements that exceed the legal minimum requirements.

Promotion of joint responsibility in all areas.

Regular awareness campaigns on effective equality between women and men.

The Plan has been negotiated and approved after more than eleven months of work between the company and the most representative trade unions, demonstrating a common commitment to moving towards a fully egalitarian culture.

FCC Medio Ambiente reaffirms its commitment to creating a diverse, inclusive and discrimination-free working environment. The company firmly believes that advancing equality is not only a responsibility, but also a way to improve people's well-being and strengthen the organisation's growth.

FCC enviro publishes its Sustainable Finance Report 2025

FCC enviro, within its Sustainable Finance Framework updated on 14th February 2023, has published its Sustainable Finance Report 2025, which details the total amount allocated to eligible green projects and the amount allocated by project category. With the aim of ensuring traceability and transparency in the use of funds, this Framework establishes the obligation to disclose annually information relating to the allocation of net proceeds from Green Bond and Green Credit issues.

The report provides a detailed breakdown of the allocations made during the 2024 financial year, in accordance with the framework and internal taxonomy, and specifies both the total amount allocated to eligible green projects and the distribution by investment category. These allocations comply with the criteria defined by the Green Bond Principles (GBP) of the International Capital Market Association (ICMA) and the Green Loan Principles (GLP) of the Loan Market Association (LMA).

During 2024, FCC enviro allocated a total of €771 million to eligible green projects. Of this amount, €496 million corresponds to the issuance of a green bond on 30 October 2023, and the remaining €275 million derives from various short-term green financing operations formalised in December 2023 and in the first half of 2024.

In line with FCC enviro's commitment to subject the allocation process to an independent external assessment, the verification agent DNV has reviewed the report and issued its positive conclusion on compliance with the criteria established in the Sustainable Financing Framework. The verification includes:

Validation of project eligibility,

proper management and monitoring of revenues,

and consistency between reported allocations and supporting documentation.

Access the Sustainable Finance Report 2025 here

FCC Medio Ambiente successfully kicks off new waste collection and street cleaning service in Granada

FCC Medio Ambiente successfully kicks off new waste collection and street cleaning service in Granada

The new waste collection and street cleaning service in the city of Granada, which FCC Medio Ambiente took over last December and will provide for the next 15 years, is now operational. The new contract represents a portfolio of €540 million, an investment of €71.7 million in vehicles, fixed installations and container parks, and employs around 850 professionals to serve more than 230,000 inhabitants.

One of the main objectives is to improve the environmental quality of the city, for which the fleet is being renewed with more than 370 cutting-edge vehicles, of which around 50% are used for waste collection, more than 90% for street cleansing and all of the used for common services are Zero-Emission Electric Units. In addition, flexible equipment is being implemented to adapt to the specific and changing needs of the municipality. In this regard, the importance of efficiency and resource savings is also noteworthy, such as the use of groundwater in all flushing, hydrocleaning and container washing equipment. All of this demonstrates the efforts of Granada City Council and FCC Medio Ambiente to implement services that are more environmentally friendly and in line with the United Nations 2030 Agenda.

Technological innovation is another important pillar of the new contract which, among other new features, will launch a Service Control and Monitoring Centre, a groundbreaking initiative in the sector that represents a significant step forward in service quality excellence, as it allows all users who need information, including the City Council, the company and the public, to have the same point of reference and unified data, all through VISION, a comprehensive digital service management platform developed exclusively by FCC Medio Ambiente. The service will implement Artificial Intelligence tools to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of resources, such as the implementation of a graffiti authorship analysis tool using images that allows the visual characteristics of graffiti and tagging to be studied and compared in order to identify the perpetrators.

The waste collection service, designed to handle more than 120,000 tonnes per year, is launching an ambitious project with the aim of increasing selectively collected waste from the current 115 kilograms per inhabitant per year to 300 kilograms by 2030. As for street cleaning, which covers nearly 600 kilometres of streets, the frequency of the various treatments is being improved and increased compared to the previous service.

Social sustainability is also particularly important, and the service will collaborate with Special Employment Centres to manage the collection of various specific types of waste.

It is essential to take citizens into account and involve them in caring for their city in order to achieve the ambitious objectives of the new service, which is why information promoters will be hired for communication and public awareness campaigns.

FCC Medio Ambiente will continue to provide waste collection services in the Pamplona Municipalities Association

Pamplona Municipalities Association (Navarre), where the company has been providing uninterrupted services since September 1985, has renewed its confidence in FCC Medio Ambiente by awarding it the contract for waste collection and transport. The new contract, which will serve the 50 municipalities that comrpise the association, represents an order book value of €77 million over the next four years and will involve more than 160 professionals and a wide range of different types of vehicles with the aim of providing a service that is specially adapted to the region.

Technological innovation is a key pillar, with cutting-edge recording and control systems that will optimise routes, improve operational efficiency and ensure comprehensive monitoring of all aspects of the service. To this end, a comprehensive digital management platform will be implemented, to which FCC Medio Ambiente will contribute its extensive experience and on which new specific modules to this contract will be developed, enabling real-time management, monitoring of bag collection services and management of all service quality indicators.

In order to serve the population of the Association and manage the approximately 130,000 tonnes of waste generated annually, the comprehensive renewal of the fleet is another key aspect of the contract, with more than 120 vehicles of various types (collection trucks, container washers, vans, auxiliary vehicles) and five mobile recycling centres. In a firm commitment to sustainability, the fleet will incorporate three electric vehicles, aiming at significantly reducing emissions and moving towards a cleaner and more efficient service. In addition, the proposal includes various measures to reduce noise impact by combining organisational adjustments with technical improvements, such as ECO mode, low-noise tyres and systems that reduce vibrations and friction, thus achieving quieter and more environmentally friendly operations.

The contract design has been geared towards optimising the dimensions of the service and adjusting them to the actual needs of the Association, with a 20% increase in equipment for organic waste and a 30% reduction in equipment for other waste, as well as the reorganisation of work shifts to reduce consumption and minimise travel. To strengthen the control and traceability of the service, a permanent inventory system will be incorporated based on duplicate registration technologies with QR labels and low-frequency RFID devices. This data structure will allow each container to be uniquely identified, its emptying history and maintenance tasks carried out to be known.

The service will gradually implement a door-to-door collection system in industrial estates, rolled out in three phases and accompanied by specific and permanent reinforcement of staff with an information officer, an inspector and a manager. At the same time, the bag collection service will be enhanced, prioritising the daytime shift to reduce the visual impact of waste outside containers and reinforcing the morning and night shifts with additional teams assigned to review commercial areas, high-traffic areas and particularly sensitive points.

In order to promote public awareness and encourage people to take care of their environment, specific campaigns will be developed to promote proper waste separation in industrial estates with door-to-door collection and to encourage the use of recycling centres. All of this reflects the commitment of the Association and FCC Medio Ambiente to an efficient management model that is aligned with sustainable development goals.

Figueres entrusts once again FCC Medio Ambiente with its waste management service

Figueres entrusts once again FCC Medio Ambiente with its waste management service

The city of Figueres (Gerona) has once again awarded the contract for municipal waste collection and transport to FCC Medio Ambiente, company which has been operating in the city for more than 40 years. The order book value is worth €35.2 million for the next eight years and will serve a total of 50,000 residents.

The service, which manages around 18,500 tonnes of waste per year, will involve 40 professionals and seeks to adapt to the current needs of the municipality in order to improve the efficiency and sustainability of the waste management system. Sustainability is particularly important, with a completely renewed fleet of more than twenty vehicles, two electric inspection vehicles and an electric bicycle for the environmental educator.

The contract will bring along a complete change in technology, focusing on the unification of the single-operator collection system with surface-level bilateral loading containers. The new model involves replacing all current surface and underground containers with new bilateral loading containers. In addition, there will be an improvement in selective collection and the promotion of waste separation. All locations will include the five collection fractions (residual, organic, paper, packaging and glass) to maximise separation at source.

In terms of initiatives, specific collection for commercial and industrial activities will be implemented and a complete renovation of the container network will be carried out, with 1,118 surface containers and 1,500 bins with a RFID identification system, on-board weighing systems and fill sensors. The city will have an intensive interior cleaning service for containers every month and a half, which will allow entire areas of dirty containers to be replaced with clean ones, and an exterior cleaning service for containers and their surroundings every two weeks. Another change will be the implementation of a collection service for used vegetable oils, for which 60 containers will be made available in the city.

For the commercial sector, a door-to-door collection system using dual-compartment trucks will be implemented. This system will cover the selective collection of residual and organic waste in hospitality, as well as paper and packaging waste in large commercial establishments. In addition, the selective collection of waste generated by activities located in industrial estates will be included. The aim of this service is to offer an efficient solution tailored to the specific needs of each sector, with daily collections or a frequency adjusted according to demand.

Technological innovation is also a key element of the renewal, with the centralisation of comprehensive service management on the digital platform VISION, developed exclusively by FCC Medio Ambiente, which enables real-time interaction with incidents, requests from residents and the municipal team. In addition, GPS trackers will be installed in vehicles for greater safety and control in the provision of the service.

Social sustainability is another fundamental element of the new contract, which provides for the launch of various communication and awareness campaigns aimed at promoting citizen participation, transparency and continuous improvement of the service, with the incorporation of a new environmental educator who will help make communication more efficient, sustainable and inclusive.

The vehicle and machinery park is located in the same municipality, minimising travel time, and its design has paid special attention to environmental aspects. It has solar panels for energy self-consumption, a domestic hot water (DHW) system, aerothermal heating, electric vehicle chargers, LED lighting, motion sensors and timed lighting. All this, together with the implementation of a comprehensive service quality self-monitoring system, will enable continuous improvement in quality indicators and constant adaptation to the needs of the municipality.
